 (CNN) — Scottish ultramarathon runner Joasia Zakrzewski has been disqualified from a 50-mile race after traveling in a car for a section of the course.Zakrzewski, who initially finished as the third woman in the race, was competing in the GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool event in England’s northwest on April 7 when organizers said she gained an “unsporting, competitive advantage” which would have compromised the integrity of the results.The 47-year-old Zakrzewski told the BBC she made a “massive error” in accepting the third-place trophy and “should have handed it back,” adding that she was “tired and jet lagged and felt sick” during the race having arrived from Australia the night before.She said she became lost around the halfway mark and her leg became sore, after which she accepted a ride in a friend’s car to the next checkpoint, according to the BBC.“When I got to the checkpoint, I told the...

Dartmouth coach Teevens has leg amputated after bike crash

Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens, a nationally known advocate for implementing measures to decrease head injuries in football, had his right leg amputated following a bicycle accident last month in Florida.Teevens and his wife, Kirsten, were riding on a road in the St. Augustine area when he was struck by a pickup March 16. Kirsten Teevens on Tuesday announced her husband underwent the amputation.“As Buddy navigates through the healing of his injuries, he is experiencing many positive improvements,” Kirsten Teevens said. “Unfortunately, as a result of the accident, Buddy’s right leg was amputated due to the severity of the injury. (AP) — A 26-year old man who used a sword to attack two men in Eastern Connecticut before going on a crime spree that included killing a former classmate and kidnapping a woman before during a multistate manhunt was sentenced Wednesday to 55 years in prison.Peter Manfredonia pleaded guilty in February to murder, kidnapping and other charges in the shooting death of Nicholas Eisele, 23, and the kidnapping of Eisele’s girlfriend.Friends and family of Eisele wore T-shirts to Milford Superior Court emblazoned with his photo inside a heart with words reading “As long as I breathe you’ll be remembered. MBTA weighing month-long nightly Blue Line shutdowns to address speed restrictions

The MBTA is leaning toward shutting down the Blue Line each night at 7 for a month to remove the line’s remaining speed restrictions, work the general manager said would otherwise take six months with normal overnight track access.General Manager Phillip Eng said Wednesday that the T is planning to lift seven of the 21 remaining speed restrictions by the end of May. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A county commissioner in far southeast Oklahoma who was apparently caught on tape discussing killing reporters and lynching Black people has resigned from office, Gov. Kevin Stitt’s office confirmed Wednesday.Stitt spokesperson Carly Atchison said the office received a handwritten resignation letter from McCurtain County Commissioner Mark Jennings.
